Staff Breakfast Presentation
with Ray Perkett
OHS 1939 Graduate

We first met Ray at the June 2011 Old Timers-All Class Reunion at Heritage Park.  He said that he had had trouble in elementary school and had been held back a few years.  When he got to Oceanside-Carlsbad High School, he had a teacher who changed his life.  He said she was nice to him.  He later served in the Army, serving as a cadre for the 12th Armored Division in World War II.

Ray learned carpentry at OCHS and worked as a carpenter.  His granddaughter said that she takes her children to see the houses he has built in the area.   He showed us a photograph of his blue ribbon entry into the San Diego County Fair.  You can see it in the center on the bottom row of photos above.  He started it in January of this year.  He is currently working on a 54" tall cathedral.

Ray is wearing his high school sweater.  He says, "It hasn't worn out and neither have I."

Thanks Ray!
