MLB’s Chris Chambliss Elected to SD Breitbard Hall of Fame-Class of 2015

Chris Chambliss, Oceanside High School Alum has been elected to the San Diego Breitbard Hall of Fame, Class of 2015.

Chambliss, an Oceanside native, played baseball at Oceanside High, Mira Costa College and UCLA where he earned All-American honors. He had a 17-year MLB career, playing for the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves. He also coached for five different teams. Chambliss was the Rookie of the Year for the Indians in 1971, and, after being traded to the Yankees in 1974, won World Series titles with the New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978 and four more times (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000) as a coach.

He graduated in the OHS Class of 1966 and was inducted into the Oceanside High School Hall of Fame in 2009.



Chambliss will be joined by two other outstanding athletes who are also elected –

  • Former San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson who played for the Chargers from 2001-09 before finishing his 11-year career with the Jets.
  • Tony Clark (SD Padres photo) who had a 15-year MLB career and this year was named executive director of the MLB Players Association.

The elected inductees will be honored at the annual Salute to the Champions on Feb. 23, 2015 at the Town and Country Convention Center in Mission Valley, San Diego.
