Coach John Carroll’s retirement from Oceanside High School after 26 amazing years was celebrated in a special event on June 26, to recognize all that Coach Carroll has done for Oceanside High, the students, players, coaches, community and city of Oceanside. Coach Carroll, his coaches, and many of his players who have helped build one of the most elite programs in Southern California were together on this special summer evening at the Junior Seau Amphitheater near the Pier in Oceanside.

His coaching milestones include – 247 victories, 2 state titles – a record 13 CIF titles, including an unprecedented 7 consecutive championships – and 21 straight semi-final playoff appearances.

“At Oceanside we are most blessed to have both site and district leaders that create an environment where excellence can thrive,” said Coach Carroll.

This past December, the district honored Coach Carroll for his impact as a teacher and a coach, naming the school’s athletic facility in his honor. The site is now officially known as Simcox Field at John Carroll Stadium.

David Rodriguez who served as an assistant on the John Carroll coaching staff from 1995 through 2003, has been named the next OHS head football coach. He reunites with OHS after spending the past six years as the head coach at Sahuarita High School, south of Tucson, Arizona. He compiled a 36-9 record.  This past season he was named the 2014 Division IV Section II Coach of the Year.  He was also tabbed with Coach of the Year honors by the Arizona Daily Star.
