Pirate Pics teams up with Oceanside Adventures for whale watching

Oceanside High School after school photo workshop-Pirate Pics and Oceanside Adventures Luxury Cruises hosted hands-on project based career tech learning opportunity on April 4, sailing on a fifty-foot catamaran from Oceanside’s beautiful harbor.  They saw five gray whales including a cow/calf pair plus 200 common dolphin.  Ellen Bartlett, retired OHS Science Department Chair joined Capt. Joe (OHS ’04 Grad), a California Certified Naturalist, in explaining the science side of this excursion.  Paul Ruez, OHS photo teacher with co-teacher Zach Cordner, Osider Magazine co-founder and celebrity photographer shared photo tips, tricks and techniques with the students. Alondra Figueroa, a former OHS counselor and the driving force behind the creation of 21 Century Assets After School Enrichment Programs at OHS four years ago joined this sea worthy crew.

Oceanside Adventures offers a variety of whale watching excursions everyday and have been operating out of the harbor for two years.  Tour operators have extensive knowledge of the whales and their migration habits and will happily share this information during the tour.  Daily trips are 2 hours and are great for families.  There are also sunset cruises and wine tasting cruises sailing from the harbor.
