The Oceanside High School Alumni/Foundation sadly announces one of our distinguished Hall of Fame members has

Dan Cerda, OHS Class of ’60

passed away. Daniel J. “Dan” Cerda from the Class of 1960 passed away on July 17, 2017 at his home in Oceanside. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Ernestine “Tina”Cerda, their four children and numerous family members.

Professor Cerda was inducted into the OHS Hall of Fame Class of 2014 after retiring from his prominent teaching career in the Imperial Valley. He and his wife, Professor Ernestine Cerda M.A., became faculty members at Imperial Valley Community College (IVC) for the specific purpose of developing an English as a Second Language (ESL) program to enhance the lives of Hispanic, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian students. other California and Arizona community colleges came to IVC to learn about the success of this program and use Professor Cerda’s techniques on their own community college campuses. He was a true trailblazer in his field.
