Foundation Accomplishments

What has the Oceanside High School Foundation/Alumni Association done?  Well, I am proud to list our accomplishments here.  Want to join in and help?  Join the Foundation and come to our meetings.  We would love to have you!  We get a lot done and have a lot of fun doing it!

The Foundation organized a fund raiser at Applebee's in April.  Another fund raiser is planned for June 23.  Hope to see you there.
The Historical Committee with Laurie Boone at the helm has been working hard on the Archives.  After school librarian Dean Capralis catalogued and  inventoried the yearbooks, we found that we had several missing yearbooks and several very old ones that we did not have duplicates.  Laurie is scouring the county for copies of our missing yearbooks.  It is our goal to have complete set and copies made of the one of a kind.  With the help of Lee Settle (Class of 1968), we now have a more secured archive.
Laurie Boone, Dean Baldridge, and Zoe Erickson helped send off the Carlsbad students in their reenactment of their 1958 move to their 'new' school.
The OHS Foundation began our tile project as part of the OHS beautification plan.  We plan on dedicating the wall after the Senior Foundation at Hall of Fame ceremony, October 25, 2008.
Some of our members volunteered at the Oceanside Senior Day and at the Sunset Market downtown, Oceanside.
The Foundation organized the 2006 Hall of Fame and the  2007 Hall of Fame.
We hosted a Barbecue for OHS students, alumni and their family before the 2007 Homecoming game

The OHS Foundation and Alumni Association awarded three one thousand dollar scholarships to three outstanding OHS graduating seniors at their Senior Awards Ceremony last year.  The award winners for 2008 have been selected, each receiving $1,000.  Also a new scholarship this year is the Oceanside High School Foundation Calvin C. Gabriel. Sr. Memorial Scholarship.  The Foundation was able to match the generous contribution from 2007 Hall of Fame Honoree, Barbara Gabriel George in the name of her father, Calvin C. Gabriel, Sr., and fund an endowment in the amount of $10,000.  The OHS Foundation is committed to helping students further their post-secondary plans by awarding these scholarships.  Click here to view this years award winners.

The Foundation Historical committee presented 3 historical albums compiled from photos taken from 100 years of OHS yearbooks and donated photos to the Oceanside High School library.  A formal presentation was made at the Oceanside Unified School Board.
The Foundation website was created to keep our alumni informed of our progress and activities.
The Foundation helped purchase a sign for the football stadium.
Mold was found in the OHS archives.  Historical committee chairman, Laurie Boone organized a clean-up project and several alumni took time out from their Christmas holiday to clean up the books.
The Foundation organized the Oceanside High Centennial, including the barbecue, Hall of Fame, Open House, and the Gala.
The Foundation gathered an alumni database for use for class reunions and OHS events. Not on the OHS Database? Click here to add your name to the list.
