Proud OHS graduate Kate Oberjat has traversed careers both on and off stage. She attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and a certificate in music business. Following University, she moved to Los Angeles to hone her craft while she performed with the Los Angeles Opera and Pacific Opera choruses as well as the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Oberjat relocated to New York City in 2001 to launch her career as a soloist. Appearances of note include Younger Alyce (Cipullo, Glory Denied), which the NY Times wrote she sang with “velvety smoothness,” Monica (Menotti, The Medium) for which OperaPulse.com stated, “I would be surprised to learn that Kate Oberjat was a day over fifteen, so well did she embody Monica’s youth and naiveté” (both with Chelsea Opera), Isabelle (Dellaira, The Secret Agent) in its world and televised European premieres with Center for Contemporary Opera, Josephine (Gilbert and Sullivan, H.M.S. Pinafore) with Nashville Opera, and Gretel (Humperdinck, Hänsel & Gretel) with Lyric Opera San Diego.  In the business realm, Oberjat worked for the New York Philharmonic’s marketing department before transitioning back to California in 2015, serving as the Managing Director for the Carlsbad Music Festival. That same year she joined the Music Academy of the West in the role of Director of Marketing and Communications and now serves as the institution’s Senior Director of Content Marketing & Digital Experience. Kate resides in Santa Barbara with her husband Seth and their 5-year-old daughter Cora Rose.
