May 4, 2016- The Osider Magazine celebrated their two year anniversary on Wed, May 4 at Masters Kitchen and Cocktail, with friends, community, and fans in attendance. At the event, The Osider congratulated OHS student photographer Manny Antelo on his amazing cover photo of Beach Soccer from last year’s tournament. Manny’s photos of the Beach Soccer Championships at the Harbor were chosen from over 10,000 event photographs. Manny is part of the OHS after-school photography program called “Pirate Pics”. Taught by Osider magazine co-founder Zach Cordner and OHS photography instructor Paul Ruez, the photography program teaches students all aspects of photography, helping students form a path towards a career in photography and encouraging students to pursue college after they graduate. In addition to Manny, other OHS Pirate Pics student interns are featured in the May/June issue of Osider, including Jacinto Alvarez, Noah Wade, Cory Villanueva, and Renordo Bowen.
This celebration is in the spirit of Superintendent Dr. Duane Coleman’s “Oceanside Promise”, where education, the city and businesses join forces to offer our youth valid and potent pathways to more rewarding academic, career and personal lives.
The Beach Soccer Championships are coordinated by Coach Frank Zimmerman serving in his capacity as Director of Coaching with the Oceanside’s youth soccer organization, the Oceanside Breakers. Coach Zimmerman contracted with Zach Cordner to provide the photo support for this nationally renowned annual event and Zach payed-it-forward by offering this photo op to our OHS Pirate Pic photo students.
Outstanding! Congratulations Manny and student photographers!
