When Allan Joseph Stelmach moved with his family from St. Louis, Missouri, to Oceanside, California, in 1954, he quickly distinguished himself as an exceptional student and athlete at Oceanside-Carlsbad High School. He served as Senior Class President and earned varsity letters in baseball, football, and basketball. Allan received First Team All-League honors in both football and baseball and was the quarterback, captain, and MVP of the varsity football team. Under his leadership, the team captured Avocado League Championships in 1954 and 1955—the first in school history—and advanced to the CIF playoffs. Coach John Simcox described Allan as an athletic genius, often allowing him to call his own plays. Allan also excelled in baseball, leading the team with a .367 batting average.

Beyond athletics, Allan became a valued community leader and volunteer. He was an active member of the Rotary Club and among the earliest members of the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside. Alongside his father, Joseph Stelmach, he helped establish and manage the Oceanside Buccaneers, a semi-professional baseball team, serving as both player and coach.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Texas, Allan returned to North County, where he and his wife, Suzanne, raised their three children: Roger, David, and Kathryn. Professionally, he worked as General Sales Manager for KSON and KYXY radio stations before concluding his career with Entravision Radio and Television.

Known for his dedication to youth sports, Allan coached and coordinated Little League, Pony League, and Colt League teams and served as President of the Carlsbad Pony League. His leadership saved the league from dissolution and earned him the City of Carlsbad’s Civic and Meritorious Service Award in 1981. Allan’s legacy is one of leadership, sportsmanship, and community service.
