Larry was born at Camp Pendleton and was raised on military installations in Washington DC, Ankara Turkey, San Diego, Atsugi Japan and China Lake CA. He attended Jefferson Junior High School and at OHS was a member of the Debate Team, was the Sports Editor and Photographer of the Driftwood student newspaper and earned his Varsity letter in Tennis. A MiraCosta College and University of Nebraska Omaha graduate, he worked for the City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Department managing community programs and facilities for 7 years and then began a new career in purchasing and contracting working on major domestic and international construction projects in Pasadena, Alaska, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Venezuela and South Carolina. He was the Manager of Contracts and Procurement at North County Transit District for 16 years until his retirement.

His past community service included coaching youth and adult baseball, basketball and soccer teams; Noon Oceanside Optimist Club projects; member of the College of Business Administration Advisory Council at CSUSM, chaired the 80th anniversary celebration of OHS which raised the initial $30,000 for the Foundation and enjoyed four seasons as the Boys JV basketball coach and Varsity assistant on Don Montamble and Steve Kinders staff.  He led the Distinguished Young Women of San Diego County Scholarship Program for 25 years while concurrently serving in key positions at the state and national program levels, and for the past 2 years has served the California program as the Chair of the Board of Directors. He was honored for his decades of service to Distinguished Young Women by being inducted into the Hall of Fame at the California and National program levels.  

He lives in Carlsbad with wife Diane where he raised his two daughters Emily and Alissa. He’s a proud Pirate and thankful for the lifelong friends he met while at OHS.
