Alumni Watch: Eileen Frazier, Class of 1988

January 1, 2021

El Camino High’s Principal Frazier Named Secondary Principal of the Year by Regional School Leaders Association.

Principal Eileen Frazier of El Camino High School, who has served Oceanside Unified for her entire 27-year career, was honored by the regional Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) as 2021 Secondary Principal of the Year. Frazier was selected for her ongoing work to ensure students have access to opportunities in all levels of their education, from advanced courses to a range of extracurriculars.

ACSA Region 18 for San Diego and Imperial counties is a network of school administrators who advocate for education policy on the state and local level and each year, the organization selects a standout school leader.

“Mrs. Frazier leads with her feet and her actions. The expectations she has of her staff pale in comparison to the expectations she sets for herself,” Superintendent Dr. Julie Vitale said. “From students to myself, we are all so fortunate to have her as a leader in our district.”

Frazier started as a math teacher at Oceanside High School, her alma mater, and worked her way through various leadership roles before being promoted in 2018 to principal of El Camino High, the district’s largest campus. Her top priority was to reshape campus culture by guiding the development of the school’s core values: Perseverance, Empathy, Respect, Responsibility, and Collaboration (PERRC). She can always be found around campus, at football games, chatting with students between passing periods, and reminding Wildcats to “PERRC up!”

“I have tried to embrace and live out the words of professor Harry Weinberger who taught us that leadership is not only about educating students; it is more about ‘relationships, relationships, relationships!’ I strive to be a servant leader to the amazing educators that I get to work alongside each day,” Frazier said. “I am grateful that I get to do the thing that I love most – educating our next generation of leaders.”

Principal Eileen Frazier’s selection will proceed for consideration as Secondary Principal of the Year at the state level.
